[July 26, 2025] “Spatial Omics Study by Geninus CEO Published in Nature Communications

A study led by Geninus CEO Dr. Woong-Yang Park has been published in Nature Communications, focusing on host immune response mechanisms against nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) pulmonary infections.Dr. Park served as the corresponding author. Prof. Eun-Kyeong Jo of Chungnam National University was co-senior author, and Yeon-Ju Lee contributed as a co-first author.

Study Overview
The study investigated the critical role of ATG7 in innate immune cells in defending against NTM infections, using spatial transcriptomics and in vivo/in vitro models. Key findings include:

  • ・Reduced ATG7 expression in immune cells of NTM patients
  • ・Elevated bacterial burden and pathological inflammation in ATG7-deficient models
  • ・Neutrophil-driven immune dysregulation and cell death
  • ・Impaired phagolysosomal fusion and mitochondrial stress in ATG7-deficient macrophages

These insights advance our understanding of immune regulation and may guide future therapeutic strategies for NTM lung disease.
